It's finally spring! Can you believe it? It's not long until we'll be able to spend evenings in a beer garden or weekends strolling down a beach. One of the best times of the year is when you get to relegate your winter coat to the back of your wardrobe and bring your summer shorts to the forefront.

While it's pretty natural to spring clean your wardrobe, it's time to think about switching up your grooming routine too.

Why do you need a new routine in spring?

As the months are getting warmer and the air is getting drier, you'll find that you need to adapt your grooming products. Your skin will have adjusted to a colder climate, and you'll no doubt be using routine that protects against the cooler weather. If you use the same products during spring, chances are they will be too heavy on your skin and could not be as effective as possible.

Not only that, but you might want to look at a different hair styling product too. With more humidity in the air, some of your products can melt and you'll find their hold isn't as strong as usual.

Here are my top tips on what to consider when spring cleaning your grooming routine:

Invest in a good cleanser!

It goes without saying that this should be a top priority all year round, but it's even more important in the warmer months. Your skin will produce more oil and you'll naturally sweat more, which only leads to blocked pores. Find a cleanser that doesn't strip the skin, but deeply cleanses and you'll be good to go.

Switch to a lightweight moisturiser

Finding a face cream that hydrates your skin, yet isn't heavy, can be a difficult thing to find. Thankfully, with the selection on MaleSkin, you'll be able to find the right product for you. It's important to keep your skin hydrated through spring, because the warmer weather can draw out any excess moisture. Think of the desert floor - no one wants to replicate that on their face.

It's time to exfoliate!

If you don't already, you need to add an exfoliator to your routine. Using a face scrub removes dead skin cells, which not only prevents clogged pores, but also allows your moisturiser to work more effectively. You'll essentially be hydrating the new skin, rather than adding moisture to skin that's already on it's way out.

Fake it 'till you make it

Everyone loves a sun-kissed glow, right? Get your hands on a BB Cream that is slightly deeper than your natural skin tone and it'll help mimic the appearance of a tan, without causing any harm to your skin. You could even try adding in a bronzer and concealer too. Both will help enhance your natural look and create a glow that will usually only be attainable from the Bahamas.

SPF, SPF, SPF

This point requires repetition! I can't stress enough how important it is to have an SPF in your routine. Not even just for spring, but all year round. Did you know that most of your skins ageing is caused by the sun? Not only will SPF protect your skin, but it'll also keep you looking younger for longer. I think I've made my point - invest in an SPF!

Don't forget about the minis

Chances are you're going to be travelling between spring and summer. Whether it's a trip abroad or spending time with your family across the UK. Having a collection of minis means you can take your skincare routine with you. This way you can ensure you don't fall off the wagon and keep your skin in tip-top shape throughout the season.

Hair is the word

You might be surprised to know, but you might have to invest in a new hair styling product. Some products don't hold up too well in heat, and you might notice them 'melting' into your hair. Find a product that isn't wax based, and make sure you set it with a humidity resistant hairspray. That way your style can stay in place all day.

It might seem like a lot of things to change, but if you start now, your grooming routine will be sorted by summer! Chances are you already have a couple of these products in your collection, and some of your current routine might actually be right on the mark.

I'd advise starting small. At the end of the day, it's better to make a couple of changes than none at all. If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask me via the MaleSkin customer service team, Instagram or check out my male grooming blog, Hishabits.
